About

This is who we are.

Burleigh Fire Dragons were first established in 1996 by a small group of committed paddlers. Originally training on the canals of Palm Beach and then the Bond University Lake, Burleigh Fire Dragons moved to their current site adjacent to the Burleigh Sports Club in August 2006. This site was a far cry from previous locations with the use of local sports fields for land training and easy access to the vast Varsity Lake systems (Lake  Orr) and the Burleigh Waters canals offering around 13kms of relatively smooth water for both endurance and sprint training.

From the very beginning, Burleigh Fire Dragons have always been a strong, competitive club and have participated in many local, State, National and International events since its early days. In fact, apart from the COVID affected 2020 event, Burleigh has competed in 15 of 17 National Championship events since their first appearance in 2002, missing only the 2008 and 2011 events. At an International level, Burleigh teams have also qualified to compete at World Club Crew Championships, which are held every 2 years on 6 occasions since 2004.

Besides hard work, strong coaching, and commitment, our greatest strengths lie in our cohesiveness, camaraderie, and respect for each other; qualities we know that have made us a champion club rather than a club full of champions. for over 20+ years.

Burleigh Fire Dragons gratefully acknowledges and  thanks the City of Gold Coast for the COVID-19 Community grant payment. This support has meant we have been able to purchase fitness and training equipment to provide alternative, land based training opportunities for members during this challenging time.
